Unit 10 required blogs

Unit 10 Blogs
1. My advice for writing a scientific paper is to begin as soon as possible. At least skim through anything remotely related to your topic because anything can give you relevant information. My research for my paper in my College Composition 2 class also gave me a useful source of information for my Anatomy and Physiology final paper as well. Also, do not be afraid to ask for help. Family, friends, teachers, classmates, and co-workers can all be valuable sources of information. Not only can they give you information about your topic, but they can give you new ideas to research and develop. They can be helpful when it comes to proofreading and revising your paper too. I like to have my friends read my papers not only to check spelling, grammar, and punctuation, but to evaluate the flow and make sure that it is informative while still keeping their attention. If they say it is hard to read, understand, or just boring, I know it needs revision. If the reader does not understand or becomes bored, then the paper is not doing its job of informing the reader about its topic.
2. I think that I have strengthened my revising techniques. Being “forced” to use the paramedic method and whole paper outline methods really helped me a lot. I am not used to using those techniques and it took me out of my comfort zone taking my writing in a whole new direction of clarity. I think they have really helped me to refine more ways to express myself correctly and concisely.
3. I think I still have to strengthen my revising skills. Using the new skills I have acquired, I feel that I am loosing some of what I am trying to convey. I need to find a better way to incorporate the old with the new in order to perfect my personal techniques without loosing anything I feel is pertinent to the topic.
4. I have enjoyed this class and learned a great deal of helpful new skills pertaining to my writing style and ability.

1. Finishing my paper has left me happy, relieved (somewhat), and better informed. Since I have been working on my project since the first week I am happy to have turned it in as well as relieved. Waiting for my grade however, takes some of the relief. Being more informed about my topic (bipolar disorder) also makes me happy because it is something that I am dealing with personally and something my children may have to deal with as well since it has been found to be hereditary.
2. I feel accomplished and nervous. I think I wrote a very good paper, I just worry if it is good enough for a high grade. I set pretty high goals for myself so projects like this that can greatly affect my overall grade considerably always worry me until I get the grade back.
3. I feel that writing is both therapeutic and a necessary evil. When I get really upset or restless, I can use writing to relieve me and it usually does. I also know that writing in one form or another is pretty much an everyday need, which at times, can become tedious. When having to write the same thing over and over again, it gets boring quickly. My ideas about writing have not changed much though throughout this course. I have always enjoyed and despised writing at the same time.
4. I would like to further my research into diabetes, ADHD, and nutrition. Diabetes runs strongly in my family and I like to stay current on warning signs, symptoms, and treatments. I also like to keep informed on preventative measures. As far as ADHD, my oldest child, husband, and one of my stepchildren suffer from it and researching it helps me better understand what they are going through and ways to help them cope with it. Nutrition ties into both of the previous topics along with so many other things. I have learned that by controlling your diet you can take great deal of your health into your own hands. I have used it to keep me from developing diabetes, to reverse my oldest son’s problems with iron deficiency and ADHD, and my youngest son’s eczema. Understanding nutrition can be very useful to everyone and the more I learn about it, the more I can use it to benefit my family and their overall health. Plus by teaching it to my children now when they are young will give them the ability to continue having a hand in their own health as they grow and make more and more food choices for themselves.

Unit 8 required blog

1. The main issue I have with this process is the abstract. I am still trying to figure out how to sum up my paper without just repeating myself in my paper. I am wondering if the abstract can be more of a personal reflection on my topic and what I hope readers will get from it. I also wonder if we need to include citations within it or references for it.
2. In a way, I am disappointed that I have not received more comments. The few that I have gotten are great, but without comments, I am not sure if anything I have written has been read much less helpful to my classmates. It is also disappointing because my heart has really been in a few of my blogs and with no comments, it didn’t help me as much as I hoped. I posted them hoping someone could relate or be helped by them because that is what helps me get through things, passing on feelings and hope for better times ahead.
3. Since my classmates and professor are the only people who read my blogs (as far as I know), I do not think I will continue them after this term. Most of us seem to not really care about blogging other than as a grade. I want for my posts to be helpful and if there is no one to read them, there is no point in sharing my thoughts. I will still write, just not post it in a public forum for no one to read.+
